Article: Stabilised Swiss wood

Stabilisiertes Schweizer Holz

Stabilised Swiss wood

High-quality knife manufacturers often use tropical wood due to its density. We aimed for a regional material – Swiss wood, stabilised using a technology from development projects at the University of Applied Sciences in Biel.

Blocks from a tree trunk from the Emmental are infiltrated (filled) 100% with acrylic under vacuum and pressure. The stabilised wood therefore does not swell on contact with water and is ideally suited for daily use in the sophisticated gastronomy, as well as in hotels by the sea and on yachts. This stabilisation also makes distinct colour nuances possible.
